I don't know about Manchester but here in Glasgow it is not until after midnight going into Christmas Day and News Years day.

Highly likely as there is no public transport in the evening . Are you planning a night out ? If so I say don't bother ; I worked in a central Manchester bar for 5 years and Christmas Eve is like a morgue .

In Bristol they are double or triple fare from 3pm on Christmas Eve until 8am on 3rd January.
