If you’re an independent contractor, how do you afford health insurance?

By making more money being self-employed than I would if I were an employee; and by the insurance premiums being tax deductible. If your business isn't making enough to make it worthwhile, then you may wish to consider whether you'd better off as someone else's employee. Or you need to figure out how to make your business more profitable.

You don't. Unless you make a lot of money.

That's just another way of saying self employed...you say Independent Contractor and I say CEO of their own firm. They use money, just like everyone else.

Maybe you do, maybe you don't.

With money you earn. Remember most ICs also get a 50% tax deduction for health insurance.

The same way you afford anything else. Work for the money
