I failed my driving test and feel awful and feel like driving isnt worth it..?

So I took my driving test and the entire time I was just confused, first off because my driving instructor gave me the keys and told me to go to the student driver car, and then in the hall he told me that he would meet me downstairs (since we were on the second floor at the time), so I just waited downstairs since that was the most recent thing he told me to do, and when he got down he asked me why I didn't go to the car, and I just told him I got confused on what I meant, and when I got in the car, I tried to adjust my seat and mirrors first before I started the car (since there were other people before me that did the driving test), and he just told me to put the keys in the car and to start the car and to start driving, and I didn't even fix my mirrors or seat or anything yet, but I started driving anyway because the entire time I was really nervous and he just told me. I mean, who am I to say no to someone who's a driving instructor and probably studies driving, right? But I don't think it mattered if I had adjusted my mirrors since he didn't say anything about it at all. When he had wanted me to turn onto a busy highway, I was really nervous because there were a lot of cars, so I waited a bit and people started honking behind me and the driving instructor kept saying "even they're honking at you, I could have driven a forklift and a truck and parked by now" and it made me feel awful because I was being too slow with my driving. Is driving really even worth it?

Failing a driving test is often the first time this generation has been allowed to fail at anything, they just don't know how to handle it. Welcome to the adult world, a place where you have to stand on your own feet and win your own battles. You're not defeated when you lose, you're defeated when you give up.

Please, stay off the roads. I drive over 40k miles per year doing service work and have been driving since the mid 1970's. The roads are so congested that inexperienced drivers have absolutely no business being there. It's totally cut-throat; the people with the high power cars weaving in and out, cutting off other drivers, cops don't care, You cannot even change lanes without the risk of being rear-ended by someone going 100+mph. It's insane. Wait for self-driving cars,. Seriously dude.

If you have the ability to get to school or work without driving...why drive? Get a state ID, and a passport. You aren't proving anything to anyone by getting a driver's license. Any idiot can drive a car. Work out and be a he-man

Very creative story. TOO BAD for you. suggest you go to a different driving place for some more lessons and take your test again when YOU feel confident Many do not pass first time. Some learn in a few weeks some take years. Is it worth it? Depends what it is you might want to do a week a month or a year or two from now with your license.

Terrible instructor. You need to be given an understanding of how things work and your instructor is failing to do that. Driving is worth it when you learn how, and you learn how following good guidance and directions to help you practice doing things right. Look him in the eye next time he's sarcastic and ask him to tell you how to do what you need to do.

You failed your driving test? So?? Just go back to the DMV office and re-take the road test portion. You usually get 3 shots at passing it, before you have to pay another application fee. If you were taking a driving test at the DMV, the person riding beside you wasn't a "driving instructor". The DMV doesn't employ "driving instructors". The DMV assumes that you already know how to operate a motor vehicle. The person riding beside you was a full-fledged State police officer, who is assigned to conduct road tests at the State DMV. Whatever he tells you to do and when he tells you to do it during the road test, that's what you do and that's when you do it! He's not trying to trip you up; he trying to determine if you know how to safely and competently operate a motor vehicle on the open road and in traffic. Re-take the driving portion of the test. Don't worry about it, relax, don't get flustered, and you'll do fine next time.

Quote: "I mean, who am I to say no to someone who's a driving instructor and probably studies driving, right?" That's where you blew it. That was a big part of the test, to see if you could be talked into doing something unsafe that you shouldn't do. And you fell for it. As the driver, you have to be the one in control, not any passengers, and not the driving instructor or examiner. You should have said no, I need to adjust the seat and mirroreS first. EPIC FAIL.

Common Sense

Your instructor was impatient and shame on him for forcing you to begin driving without adjusting your seat and mirrors. I would find out his schedule and avoid going in during his work hours the next time you try to take the test. In the mean while, you can still practice driving with a parent, right? I would do that and work on entering traffic when it is a busy time of day. When people honk, they often see you missed opportunities to merge into traffic and they become impatient. Some people use their horns needlessly because THEY are running late. Nonetheless, that instructor should have never admonished you and commented negatively the way he did because that just caused you to be even more nervous. What an idiot he is. To be honest with you, I would report him to his supervisor. NOT because he failed your driving test but because he rushed you into driving without giving you an opportunity to adjust your mirrors and seat. That is all day wrong. And, I would also mention that he made fun of you with unnecessary verbal comments (forklift!!!). Relax and just practice and try again. Because, yes, it is worth passing the test so you can drive and get on with your life. Driving just takes concentration. Don't allow that instructor to rattle you. Practice more and gain your confidence. You can do this, you can.

Get as much practice as you can and try again, Maybe even another location if the instructor is being that rude from the start. You were right to go to adjust mirrors, seats, seatbelt etc. You are suppose to even if they dont say it. Get to where you feel all the confidence while driving and take a wack at it again
